Google has announced an extended repair program for the Pixel 9 Pro and its XL variant to address a display-related issue. In addition, Google is extending the warranty on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold from one year to three years to guard against potential future problems.
In several older smartphones, vertical green lines can suddenly appear on the screen. While newer OLED panels have improved, Google appears to anticipate a similar issue potentially arising with the Pixel 9 Pro lineup, following precedents set by Samsung and OnePlus who offer free or low-cost repairs for affected devices.
Under the extended program, Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL devices are eligible for coverage for three years from the original purchase date. The program specifically covers a vertical line that runs from bottom to top across the display, as well as any display flicker on the Pixel 9 Pro.
Note that devices with cracked screens or other major hardware or liquid damage may not qualify for the program, in which case repairs would be paid out of pocket.
Repairs for the vertical line issue begin on December 8, 2025. If an owner has already paid for a screen replacement for a similar problem through an authorized repair center, Google may reach out to offer assistance.
Separately, Google is extending the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s warranty by three years from the date of purchase. The company states that a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices may suffer issues that affect device functionality, and in such cases a replacement will be provided at no cost. The extended coverage includes a 90‑day warranty for those replacement devices.
The exact nature of the problems affecting the second‑generation Fold isn’t clearly detailed, but the support wording suggests a display-related concern. Like the Pixel 9 Pro, units with cracked displays or liquid damage are not eligible for the extended coverage.
