I hail from Chhatarpur, a quaint town in Madhya Pradesh, where life is steeped in routine, discipline, and the warmth of close-knit communities. My parents—a doctor and a professor—instilled in me a love for learning from an early age. Even now, after years away, I find myself longing for the simplicity of home: the flavors of familiar food, the laughter of old friends, and the comfort of family. Yet, it was this very foundation that propelled me toward bigger dreams.
Like countless students of my generation, I grew up hearing about the IITs as the pinnacle of academic excellence. My motivation was straightforward: I wanted to be part of the best. But this aspiration wasn’t just a fleeting thought—it became my north star, driving me through countless hours of preparation. In 2022, I took the JEE Main and JEE Advanced, securing ranks of 3222 and 2772, respectively. Looking back, it’s not the numbers that stand out, but the grit and growth that defined the journey.
Preparing for the IIT dream wasn’t just about cracking exams—it was a test of resilience, solitude, and self-belief. I opted for online coaching, which meant long hours in my room, staring at a screen, while thousands of others across the country did the same. The competition felt both vast and isolating. What kept me going? A handful of friends who understood the pressure and became my lifeline during the toughest moments. When it came to JoSAA counseling, I realized how little I knew about the choices ahead. My family stepped in, guiding me to select Computer Science and Engineering alongside Electrical Engineering—fields that promised depth and opportunity. Arriving at IIT Mandi in October 2022, just after the COVID-19 pandemic, was a whirlwind. It was my first time living away from home, and while I adapted quickly, my parents struggled more than I did. The initial weeks were a mix of excitement and homesickness. The mountains, the cold, the unfamiliar food—everything felt alien. But over time, the campus became a second home. Shared rooms turned into shared lives, and strangers became family. The Himalayan backdrop, with its serene beauty, became a silent companion, easing the transition in ways I hadn’t anticipated.
Finding balance at IIT wasn’t just about academics—it was about discovering myself beyond the classroom. Joining the Dance Club in my first year gave me an outlet to express myself creatively. Juggling studies, clubs, internships, and personal goals was challenging, but I learned to break my life into manageable focus areas. Being at IIT undeniably opened doors that might have remained closed otherwise. From placement support to cutting-edge research in machine learning and deep learning, the institute provides a platform like no other. But more than the opportunities, it’s the people—my peers, who challenged and inspired me—that shaped my growth. As I near the end of my undergraduate journey, I realize IIT isn’t just about a degree; it’s about gaining clarity, confidence, and the courage to explore the unknown.
After my BTech, I plan to work in the software industry before pursuing higher studies abroad.
