A chilling update has emerged regarding the disappearance of Taron Stepanyan: what was once a missing person case is now being treated as a potential homicide.
This devastating news comes from the Toronto Police, who are now actively investigating the disappearance of the 42-year-old man. He was last seen leaving his Scarborough home over two years ago, specifically on the evening of December 23, 2023.
Detective Sergeant Phil Campbell announced on Saturday that the circumstances surrounding Stepanyan's disappearance have led investigators to believe foul play may have been involved. "Based on information we’ve recently obtained, the circumstances of his disappearance now meet the threshold for a homicide investigation," he stated.
But here's where it gets controversial: Detective Campbell declined to disclose specific details, citing concerns that it could jeopardize the ongoing investigation. They have not identified any suspects at this time. "We continue to actively investigate what happened and are pursuing all available leads," he added.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. They also emphasized that anyone found concealing evidence or assisting someone after the fact could face charges related to the murder. Detective Campbell acknowledged the prolonged suffering of Stepanyan's family, stating, "We recognize that this has been a difficult and painful period for Taron’s family, particularly as time passes on without getting any answers. I can tell you our focus remains on finding Taron, determining what happened and providing those answers to the family."
Stepanyan is described as a man who is five-feet-eleven in height, weighing approximately 229 pounds, with short brown hair, a brown-and-grey beard, and brown eyes.
As recently as last month, the police issued another appeal for public assistance in their search for Stepanyan.
